The ASB Showgrounds is a bustling hive of construction, as massive temporary halls are erected, plots are landscaped and entire houses are lowered into place, all in preparation for the 2011 Auckland Home Show.
ustralasia’s largest selection of everything Home, Living and Renovation, is an
absolute “must see” for anyone looking to renovate or build a new home.
Taking a year of solid planning, over 5,000 personnel are working around the clock to
fabricate, aggregate and irrigate all the exciting exhibits, surrounds and buildings to
house them. That’s one million combined hours of labour, ready for five huge days of
home and renovation exhibition.
Auckland Home Show Exhibition Director, Amanda Magnus, has seen the Show evolve over her eight years with the event, from modest beginnings into the quintessential place to go for consumers and industry alike.
“Every year we refresh our features and seminars in line with the current trends” says Amanda, “I see international standard in many of our exhibitor’s displays. They put a great deal of money and effort into creating the right look and feel… it’s a real credit to all of them who’ve again pulled out all the stops in what has been a very tough year.”
The Street of Houses has been under construction since July with prefabricated
houses being lowered in by crane and others featuring the latest in tiling trends being
built completely from scratch on site. With professional landscaping and design, the
Street boasts an impressive display unseen anywhere else in the Southern
Hemisphere.
Renovation is the number one topic at this year’s Home Show. More than $1.4 billion was spent on home improvements and renovations in 2010 and this year promises to be no different, with people continuing to invest in their homes and renovate despite the current economic climate.
Industry professionals will be offering their expert opinions in daily seminars, covering
how to’s, colour schemes and interior design tips, as well as advice on how to keep
your renovation on budget and most importantly, ensuring its success!
Other exciting features include the inaugural Smeg Cooking Theatre which is set to
be a major attraction this year, offering Italian Cooking inspiration on Italian Designed
Appliances. The Green Urban Living Seminars and exhibitors will offer great ideas to
slash water and energy bills, and the beautifully lush Auckland Landscape Supplies “Walk of Gardens” and the inspirational Designer Living Pavillion will take care of all
your garden and interior queries.

The Auckland Home Show 2011:
Wednesday August 31 – Sunday September 4 2011,
ASB Showgrounds, Auckland
According to Statistics New Zealand, New Zealanders spent more than $1.4 billion on home improvements and renovations in 2010 - a figure that doesn’t even include all the small jobs that kiwis are so fond of!
So with the nation’s largest selection of kitchens, bathrooms, furniture, furnishings and landscaping on show all in one venue, the Auckland Home Show 2011 at ASB Showgrounds, 31 August – 4 September, is a must see for all home renovators and new home builders.
Auckland Home Show co-owner, Jane Ford, CEO of Exhibitions and Events New Zealand Ltd, says that despite the effect of the recession, people are still choosing to invest in their homes and believes the uncertainty of the economic climate is driving this desire to renovate.
“Homeowners are choosing to stay put and renovate their homes instead of selling and trading up,” says Ms Ford. “In June 2011, the number of properties on the Auckland market dipped to its lowest level in nearly four years, creating a shortage of properties. With few people deciding to sell, renovation and home improvement has never been more important for those who want capital gain, or at the least, a better place to live.”
This is where the Auckland Home Show is invaluable at showing consumers the latest and greatest home renovation products, ideas and inspiration available in New Zealand.
“We offer everything homeowners need to solve their renovation issues,” says Ms Ford. “We’re expecting a very strong attendance.”
Key Features of the 2011 Auckland Home Show are ‘Auckland Landscape Supplies Walk Of
Gardens’ created by 12 landscapers and showcasing fresh new garden ideas; the ‘Floradell
Street of Houses’ a walk through cul-de-sac of innovative relocatable houses and ‘Green
Urban Living Seminars’ where you can find loads of solutions to cut your water and energy
bills.
Of course, there will be an extensive selection of kitchen and bathroom appliances on show
to fit any taste or budget. And the popular ‘Ask the Renovation Experts’ feature also returns,
where visitors can bring their plans and get one-on-one free renovation advice, potentially
saving them thousands.
“Renovations can be an expensive exercise and homeowners need to know how they can best utilise their budget, however big or small, to get the most for their money and add value to their home” says Ms Ford.
“Doing thorough research and getting expert advice on any potential renovation is crucial to make sure the alterations not only improve the home, but also increase its value,” she said.
You’ll also see at the Show, top home builders, insulation, home technology, swimming and spa pools, audio-visual equipment, heating and cooling and more.
“The Auckland Home Show has been created to inspire, inform and leave any homeowner or potential homeowner with a clear idea of what’s possible to achieve with their property,” she said.
“A home is the biggest investment most people will ever make, so Aucklanders shouldn’t
miss this once a year opportunity to find out how to create the home of their dreams.”
