Metal Madness

The molten glow of metallic continues to grow in popularity in 2017, retaining its place as one of the key trends for 2017.  Whether it’s pendant light, plumbing fixture, an outdoor planter or a reclaimed furniture favourite, this warm or cool shiny tone continues to intrigue us with the way it automatically adds a little something extra to a space.

Let’s look at the ways you can introduce some understated, but no less appealing luminosity into one or more of your rooms.

Luxuriously restrained

Painting a small vase, bowl or picture frame in a metallic of your choice brings an eye-catching feature to a room on a scale that won’t cost the earth.  If you’re feeling particularly creative, have a crack at your own work of art utilising stencils or go crazy and freehand a metal composition of your own on canvas.  Changing out the knobs on existing bathroom cabinetry or updating kitchen pulls is another small but effective way to bring a metallic sheen into your space.

Upcycle and add a luxe factor

Aside from its captivating gleam, a metallic has the ability to complement loads of other colours, tints, tones and shades.  Much loved but tired looking pieces of furniture can experience a new lease of life through the addition of a metallic painted base, repainted arms, or legs.  If your lounge or bedroom is a neutral zone of greys or white, think about bringing in copper side tables or pewter buffet to create a sense of texture and interest in the room.

See the light

Nothing creates more warmth or drama in a room than lighting; think a bold pendant light over a kitchen island, glorious chandelier in the bedroom, or vintage feel lighting in a bathroom.  For smaller spaces, a metallic light fixture is an excellent way to help bounce light around the room.  The pairing of a metal with a natural material like wood or marble instantly creates a gorgeously elegant effect.

Heavy metal

If you’ve ticked all the boxes of incorporating metallic accents on furniture, within fabrics, throughout artworks, in lighting and are still wanting more – it’s time to look to your walls for some serious statement making.  Here the sky is the limit; you can go with a subtle textured metallic paint finish to bring a room to life, bring in a textured metallic finished wallpaper or go flat-out glamazon and even paint the ceiling to achieve an ultimate level of luxury.
